Report
The Challenge Cup winners started electrically as Mary Coleman and Eva Hunter each crossed in the opening six minutes. First a clever reverse ball allowed Coleman to race over before Molly Jones broke from inside her own half with Hunter scoring on the next play. Rowe added the extras to make the score 12-0.
Having withstood a wave of Huddersfield pressure which ended with an error, the Warriors extended their lead on 14 minutes when M. Jones broke through once more before being stopped 10m out. After working the ball left, Hunter was crossed for her second as Rowe kicked Wigan 18-0 ahead.
Wigan’s continued domination at Laund Hill resulted in a fourth try just after the half’s mid-point when Rowe drew in the Huddersfield defence before sending Power over on the right side. Despite an unsuccessful conversion attempt from the touchline, the Warriors led 22-0.
Power added her second of the day just before the half-time turnaround, bumping a tackle to spin away and complete her move. Rowe added the extras for a 28-0 half-time advantage for the Warriors.
Wigan almost extended their lead at the start of the second half when Hunter raced down the left side before being left one-on-one with Amelia Brown, who stopped the Warriors second-rower just short to deny the hat-trick.
The Warriors scored three quick-fire tries before the hour to put themselves 46-0 ahead. First Banks crossed before Williams’ short range score was added to with a fine solo run from Hilton after starting on the left side. Rowe made no mistake in kicking all extras from the tee.
Wigan added a ninth their try with 10 minutes remaining when Rowe’s fired pass out wide allowed Davies to finish, before the final try was scored with two minutes to go when Coleman’s huge run through the middle eventually led to Williams adding a second. Rowe wrapped up the 58-0 win whilst taking her points total to 18.
