Liam Marshall reflected on becoming our all-time leading try scorer in the Super League era in a late win over Huddersfield Giants.

Marshall scored the first of four Warriors tries in a last gasp win at the FLAIR Stadium, Dewsbury, to overtake Pat Richards as Wigan’s top try scorer in the Super League era (148) on his 200th appearance for the Club.

Reflecting on a historic afternoon, Marshall said: “It’s really humbling as I never expected to be anywhere near that. There’s some big names there and I managed to get over for that one [the record] which is good.”

The winger added: “A massive thanks to Wigan for the trust they’ve always put in me, and to play 200 games for my hometown team is something I’ll look back on in a few years with excitement. Hopefully there’s more to come.”

On the win in Dewsbury, Marshall said: “We knew it would be a tough game all in all and obviously we left it really late there. There’s still a lot of things to fix, but it was a tough, gritty way to get a win. Full credit to Huddersfield who were really good, but it was nice to pip them and get there in the end.”

Describing his feeling during the winning moment, Marshall said: “Relief as we probably didn’t deserve the win, but these are big games in the context of the season. There’s still a lot to work on but we’ve come away with the two points.”

Looking at the second half of the season, Marshall said: “We’re doing alright but there’s still a lot to work on as we haven’t been at our best for a while. There were disappointing spells there, but it’s good that we’re still picking up results to be towards the top of the table. There’s still a long way to go which is exciting and a challenge, but we’ve got to keep turning up for each other.”

The Warriors are proud to reveal that next season will mark the testimonial year for Marshall to honour a decade of outstanding service and dedication to the Club, on which he said: “A big thanks to Wigan and the RFL for sorting that out. There’s a lot of good things to come, but the aim first is to get this season boxed off. Stayed tuned.”
