  • FT | Huddersfield Giants 18-22 Wigan Warriors.

Matt Peet praised the ‘spirit and resolve’ of his players following his side’s late betfred Super League win over Huddersfield Giants.

Jack Farrimond scored twice in closing stages at the FLAIR Stadium, Dewsbury, as the Warriors came from behind to beat the Giants and extend their winning run to nine matches.

Reflecting on the late win, Peet said: “I always thought today was a really sticky game for obvious reasons. I’m just pleased to see us play with such spirit towards the end, and I just love the resolve of the team. You can’t win them all in a pretty or perfect manner, but I love what I’ve been reminded of about my group.”

Liam Marshall opened the scoring on his 200th Wigan game to become the Club’s all-time leading try scorer in the Super League era, and praising the winger, Peet said: “I’m so proud of Liam. I know how much it means to him and his family and he’s just the embodiment of everything we want to be about.”

Peet added: “It’s fascinating we win in such a manner on the day he achieved so much. Everything we talk about with Liam is about never giving up and fighting to the end, and that’s exactly how today turned out. I owe him so much and he’s playing a big part in the club’s history – he’s very important to us.”

On the attitude of his players, Peet said: “The players embraced [the challenges] and I don’t think there was a great deal wrong with their attitude. You’d love to win every game in fine style, but you learn a lot about your time when its backs against the wall. We came through it, and we got the win.”

Sharing his belief, Peet said: “I’d never give up on them as I know we’ve got ability and talent – that’s the threat of us. I’d rather them did it earlier, but it makes for an entertaining game and interesting story. We dealt with it, we embraced it and we’ll learn a lot from it.”

Praising individual performances, Peet said: “Our back three had a lot to contend with and I thought Jai did that really well whilst being courageous with some standout moments. I loved the way Jack Farrimond came through the game. He was good with the ball under pressure which is something he’s going to have to get more and more used to. He stuck at his game and he’ll be delighted with how it finished.”
