- FT | Catalans Dragons 0-48 Wigan Warriors.
Matt Peet has reflected on Wigan Warriors’ huge 48-0 victory over Catalans Dragons at Stade Gilbert Brutus on Saturday evening.
Reflecting on the result, Peet said: “I’m made up with the lads. We very much had a defensive mindset coming here today and we’ve needed to with the way we’ve been leaking points so it was probably the kind of game that we needed in terms of having to defend and we lost a couple of front rowers as well – so I just love the togetherness of the group.”
On the performance, Peet said: “We can’t worry too much where Catalans are but we’ve been leaking too many points so we had to turn up for one another, particularly in the early stages when they were full of energy. We had quite a lot of goal line defence to get through and when some things don’t go to plan, it’s about sticking with each other – I’m just really proud.”
Ethan Havard came off the bench to play his first minutes of the season in the win, and on the forward, Peet said: “Really pleased for Ethan. All the lads are made up for him, so it’s good. [Injuries] It’s more about the group and sticking together. You hope at the back end of the year you’re in a position – league and squad health – that you can show what you’re capable of and play.”
Providing an update on Luke Thompson and Ethan Havard, Peet said: “It’s too early to say. Luke [Thompson] did something around his ribs and Sam [Walters] his lower leg. We’ll have to wait to find out some more information.”
On the Catalans trip, Peet said: “It’s good because it breaks up the season by giving you something to look forward to. We spend time together and the club’s in a position where they make sure we have no excuses in terms of our travel, accommodation and nutrition. The players have got to do their bit as well, so when it all comes together it’s really pleasing.”
Praising the support, Peet said: “I had a conversation with Kris Radlinski about the commitment our supporters show and how our average attendances at home are heading for impressive figures. The way they travel is incredible, not just the numbers, but how they enjoy themselves and compliment the event. We all go home proud today and look forward to returning towards the end of the year.”
Next up for Matt Peet’s Warriors, it’s a trip to face Salford Red Devils at Salford Community Stadium this Friday 30 May (8pm K.O.) Tickets remain available online HERE or from The Brick Community Stadium Ticket Office (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm).
