Wigan Warriors Women’s Loose Forward Megan Williams has looked ahead to Saturday’s Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup Semi-Final clash against Leeds Rhinos.
Talking about the excitement of Semi-Final week, the 19-year-old said: “Even last week, it was an exciting time thinking next week is semi final week and now it is semi-final week. I think the energy in training now is going to be really good, everyone’s going to have that mixture of nerves and excitement.”
On the road to the Semi-Final the Warriors brushed aside Barrow Raiders, London Broncos and Cardiff Demons scoring 224 points and not conceding a single point. On their defence, the loose forward praised the mindset: “We’ve focused a lot in training and in pre-season about our goal line defence, where we should be positioning wise, line speed and I think that’s showed in the games. We’ve worked really hard on that but even from the wins, we’ve pointed out bits that we need to work on in defence.
“I think that’s been important because it’s been challenging keeping teams out and teams have gotten pretty close, so it’s important that we take what we’ve learnt from these three games into the semi-final.”
The young forward also scored her first try for Wigan in the Quarter-Final victory as she opened the scoring: “It was quite nice. Holly [Speakman] passed me the ball over the line really, so it was a nice easy try for myself – but it was a good feeling being able to score my first try for Wigan.”

Assessing their Semi-final opponents Leeds Rhinos, Williams said: “They’ve signed a few players in the off-season and we know they’re a top team. They’re strong, physical, they’re quick and it’s going to be our toughest challenge of this season. I think if we want to compete, put on a good game and come off the pitch feeling like we’ve done everything we can – we need we need to be at our best and to be clinical.”
Looking ahead to Saturday’s tie, she added: “It’s a special week, we’re in a semi-final so we have to enjoy the moment, enjoy the occasion and try not to let it overwhelm you.
“We’ve just got to take it as it comes, do what we can, play what’s in front of us and if we do what we’ve been training to do and play at our best then there’s nothing else we can do.”
