Luke Thompson has shared his excitement following confirmation that the ashes will return this autumn.

Rugby League Commercial announced this morning that England will host a three-match Ashes Test series against Australia for the first time since 2003 at Wembley Stadium (London), Everton Stadium (Liverpool) and AMT Headingley Stadium (Leeds).

Speaking to the press at Robin Park Arena, Warriors and England forward, Luke Thompson said: “It’s exciting to finally get it announced. It’s a series that all players and fans can look forward to at the end of the season. It’s massive for the game in England and hopefully we can get a lot of eyes on the matches.”

Sharing his motivation ahead of Series, Thompson said: “You’re always trying to push yourself to get an England call up as that’s the pinnacle of a career. Everyone is desperate to wear that shirt at the end of the season, and that’ll be more so now with The Ashes. There will be a lot of competition for places which will raise the game of all players available.”

Thompson added: “Whatever England team gets selected will be very confident. We’ve showed in the last few Test series that whatever squad is put together is more than capable of getting the job done.”

On the Warriors’ preparations for Sunday’s clash against Salford Red Devils, Thompson said: “There’s always lessons to learn. We review the game before and look for ways to improve as we move onto our next opposition. We’ve had a long turnaround which has allowed us more time on the training field to fix up in certain areas and put a performance in this Sunday.”

Speaking on the Red Devils, Thompson said: “I’ve been impressed with how they’ve got on with things in the opening part of the year. They still turn up each week so we’ll have to be on our game this weekend.”
