Sam Walters has discussed playing in the middle ahead of Saturday’s betfred super league return to former side Leeds Rhinos.

The forward has made interchange appearances in four consecutive matches in all competitions, which has seen Walters provide an option through the middle.

Reflecting on the Challenge Cup defeat to Hull FC, Walters said: “We were all really disappointed and hurt over the weekend. We wanted to emulate the success we had in the Challenge Cup last year, but it wasn’t to be and that’s credit to Hull FC for the way they turned up in the second half. For us now it’s about looking forward in the league and fixing the wrongs in training.”

On the honest conversations post-match, Walters said: “It’s important when things don’t go your way that you stop and look. If we skimmed through the issues then we’d never get better. We’ve addressed the game, and it’s something we don’t want to see again.”

On playing for Leeds Rhinos and Wigan Warriors, Walters said: “I tend to take things day by day but when I look at it, I’ve played for two historic Clubs. I’m grateful for that, but I’m still young and I’ve still got plenty of improving to do. I’m excited for what is set to be a great turnout at Headingley for what should be a great game.”

Talking through his transition to the middles, Walters said: “I’m still building on each performance, but I’m enjoying my role. Playing in the middle was something I didn’t get to try last season, but I feel like I’m settled in that area and providing another option. I’m not sure where my best position is but if I can add something to the middle then I’m happy to do so. I’m enjoying the pace in the middle and I feel as though I’m fit enough to push the big minutes.”

Having sold out an initial allocation, the final few tickets remain on sale for Saturday’s clash against the Rhinos. Tickets can be purchased from The Brick Community Stadium or online HERE.
