Matt Peet spoke to the press on Tuesday afternoon ahead of Friday’s Round Two Betfred Super League clash with Hull FC at the MKM Stadium.
Reflecting on Wigan’s golden point loss in Round One, the Warriors Head Coach said: “I think I said it after the game, I knew there would be moments we would pause and reflect on in the play but want to improve and execute a bit better.
“My gut feeling after the game was one of pride in the players commitment and endeavour. I thought they looked good physically, and it was part of a really intense game which doesn’t change – I think going forward now we build on it.”
On Friday’s trip to Hull FC, Peet said: “We know what to expect. It’s a great atmosphere, really passionate fans in the ground, and a committed group of players who are optimistic. We saw signs across the league last weekend and I don’t expect anything different this week. Everyone’s committed, full of enthusiasm, relatively healthy, and it’s all in intense games which will be more of the same.”
On their opponents, he added: “They got the result last weekend so optimism and confidence will be high. I think we’re going to face a challenge. I was particularly impressed with their competitive nature and their commitment – to defend, to fight. I think John [Cartwright] will be really proud of that, as a starting point, I know I would have been.”
Finally, updating on injuries to Brad O’Neill and Ethan Havard: “Brad is doing great, he’s on track from where we expected. Ethan’s had his operation which has gone well, so now he’ll start working on his rehab programme.”
