Wigan Warriors Women’s Emily Veivers spoke to wiganwarriors.com following her move to Wigan ahead of the 2025 Betfred Women’s Super League campaign.

Speaking on her arrival in Wigan, Veivers said: “I’m so excited, I’m keen to make use of the great facilities the Club has here so I can’t wait to get started, get stuck in and meet all the girls.

“I know Georgia (Wilson) from being at Norths Devils together and I met everyone at training last week. It’s been a good change and it’s an exciting time.”

Veivers now joins pre-season under Denis Betts ahead of the Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup and Super League competitions. On her knowledge of the competition so far, she said: “I’ve seen a little bit of the Super League, though not a heap as it’s quite difficult to watch the games back in Australia. I’m excited and I think it’s going to be an interesting year and I’m looking forward to coming up against some new teams.”

Having spent her first week training at Robin Park Arena and heading out into the Community, the PNG Orchid’s international has set some firm goals for the year ahead: “The goal is to debut in round one, that’s my first goal. I’m going to put my best foot forward at training to earn my jersey and support the team.

“I’d love to score a try too in the Wigan colours, I haven’t scored in ages!”

In her first week with the Club, Veivers alongside Academy players Freya Heaton and Charlotte Meredith went out in the Community to deliver a session at Culceth Eagles as part of the Women’s and Girls Community programme run by the Club.

On the Community aspect, the back-rower said: “I think it’s a great thing to be able to go out into the Community to help and give back to the younger generation away from the training field, not just being able to help them with rugby, but being able to put a smile on their faces and showing them the opportunities they can achieve on and off the field.”

On what she can bring to the Warriors, Veivers explained: “I think I can bring some experience, I’ve had quite a few games with the PNG Orchids at International so I’ve been coached by a number of high level coaches. Little critiques that I’ve learnt over the years, I think I can give some input to the team in that way.

“I’m quite vocal on the field but I do try and lead with my actions to try and boost the girls. We’re both (Wilton and Veivers) bringing some age too, it’s a very young and athletic squad so we do bring a few years.”

After enjoying her first week in the North of England so far, Veivers is now looking forward to seeing more of the UK alongside her Rugby career: “As soon as we have a day off I might be out on the train checking out a new City. I’ve been here before for the World Cup but we didn’t get to explore too much so I’m excited to see what England has to offer.”
