Wigan Warriors Women’s new recruit Remi Wilton discussed her first year in BWSL, pre-season and joining the Warriors for 2025.
Wilton has been at Robin Park Arena stepping up pre-season preparations with the squad, she said: “It’s been really good, the girls and the Club as a whole have been very welcoming. I’ve had a few training sessions now and it’s been nice to come back and get straight into it, see the rundown of everything. It’s been really good.
“We did some hill sprints before Christmas, that was really good for team building and a nice way to go before the break.”
Wilton returned to Rugby League in 2024 as she joined fellow Betfred Women’s Super League side York Valkyrie, going on to win the Grand Final in October: “I’d been out of Rugby League for a few years back home due to work commitments so it was nice to get back into the sport last year, especially coming over here for the first time and winning the Grand Final with York – it was pretty memorable.”
She added: “I’m definitely looking to top that this year with Wigan, hopefully we can do it. It’s good to be back in the game, playing again and hopefully after a bit of injury for myself last year, I can have a better season this time around and a bit more game time.”

Discussing what she can bring to the Warriors pack for the season ahead, Wilton said: “I think that variation, having a few of us here that have had that experience in Australia gives a different side to Rugby.
“Obviously playing at York Valkyrie last year too, I think it’s great being able to come in with a season under my belt. My Union background at nine will also come in handy, it’s another point of difference that might help boost the team.”
“Being at 9 naturally it comes with a bit of vocality,” Wilton said, “but it’s great to be able to lead with your actions and leave everything on the field.”
Now set to pull on the Cherry and White shirt, Wilton is also relieved to be playing alongside rather than against some of the players she called rivals last season: “I didn’t run against Wigan last year due to injury but looking at the team sheet there’s a few players on there that I’m glad I didn’t have to run against and I’m definitely pleased they’re on my team this year.”
