Foundation coaches support Ahead of the Game campaign

Wigan Warriors Community Foundation have supported rugby league cares Movember Ahead of the Game mental health campaign.

Delivered by Rugby League Cares officers Bob Beswick and Steve Hardisty, the three-day Training the Trainer course educates young players (aged 12 to 18 years) and their support networks (parents, coaches, and club volunteers) on the importance of mental health.

The course helped participants’ skills and knowledge needed to spot signs of poor mental health, how to talk about mental health challenges, and how and when to seek help.

Four coaches from Wigan Warriors Community Foundation were in attendance alongside staff from Warrington Wolves, Hull FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC.

Rugby League Cares Head of Wellbeing Programmes, Keith Senior said: “The impact Movember Ahead of the Game is having in rugby league communities cannot be overstated and we’re proud and privileged to be able to share that success as widely as possible.

“The three days we spent with Warrington, Wigan, Hull FC and Spurs were really productive, and we’re looking forward to helping clubs deliver Ahead of the Game locally.”

Wigan Warriors Community Foundation Health and Wellbeing Officer, Adam Stansbie added: “Attending this course has been massive for my development but also for the Foundation and the education we will be able to provide to staff. Having a clear understanding from this training will make sure the messages we provide will remain clear.”
