Men’s Mental Health Month: Andy’s Man Club Wigan
Wigan Warriors are proud to highlight the incredible work Andy’s Man Club performs at The Brick Community Stadium during men’s mental health month.
Since July 2023, the men’s suicide prevention charity has offered free-to-attend, peer-to-peer, support groups in an attempt to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health whilst creating a judgment-free, confidential, space where men can be open about the storms in their lives.
An incredible 4,283 men have walked through doors at The Brick Community Stadium, and due to the growth of the group, there are now 22 trained facilitators – volunteers leading the sessions – which has increased from five at the first session.
Volunteers from Andy’s Man Club operated an awareness stand at our recent Fireworks, Lasers and Live Music Spectacular at Robin Park Arena, with other events planned across the festive period to raise vital funds.
Speaking on the importance of the group, Wigan Warriors Community Foundation Health Well-being Officer, Adam Stansbie said: “Andy’s Man Club is massive for our community in allowing men to be able to express their feelings in a safe environment. The Brick Community Stadium is the town’s biggest venue so it’s great to be able to host the group and raise awareness this month.”
Andy’s Man Club Wigan Lead Facilitator, Pete Gregory said: “We have had an amazing number of brave men walk through our doors since we opened and we couldn’t have done this without the support of Wigan Warriors and Wigan Athletic.
“We are delighted to have helped so many men in Wigan, and we are proud to be opening an Andy’s Man Club group at Standish Library on the 2 December. We can’t stop and we won’t stop offering support to men in Wigan.”
Sessions take place every Monday night (excluding bank holidays) in the East Stand at The Brick Community Stadium from 7-9pm. Alternatively, online groups are available to join by emailing [email protected].
