Foundation kickstart community activities before England Test
Wigan Warriors Community Foundation have kickstarted a week of international-themed activities ahead of England’s double-header in Wigan.
Coaches from community clubs attended a special Q&A with England Women’s head coach Stuart Barrow and Men’s assistant coach Lee Briers on Monday evening in the build up to internationals against Wales and Samoa.
The event provided an opportunity for coaches to ask Barrow and Briers questions relating to their coaching careers which returned invaluable advice that can be taken back to boost development.
Speaking on the event, Wigan Warriors head of community, Danny Fullerton said: “This event started an inclusive week of planned community activities surrounding England’s Test match in Wigan, in which Stuart and Lee provided a fantastic insight into their coaching philosophies and journeys.
“We look forward to engaging with the rugby league community throughout this week as we get behind Shaun Wane’s England team.”
The MA Brickworks and The DigiVan Community Club Ambassadors night kickstarted a series of Foundation activities ahead of England Men’s two-match series against Samoa which gets underway at The Brick Community Stadium this Sunday.
Barrow attended the opening day of the Club’s international-themed half-term camp on Tuesday to provide participants with an insight into how girls rugby league is growing as well as the pathway opportunities the Warriors provide.
Following a highly attended Alcedo Care boys rugby development session on Tuesday evening, our popular girls rugbees session returns on Thursday with England Women’s international Anna Davies and Warriors Women’s Rease Casey and first team coach Kirsty Crehan – book a place HERE.
The Warriors will host a SWS junior and adult touch rugby festival at Robin Park Arena on Friday evening – participation is free from 5-8pm – before an inclusive carnival featuring the Warriors PDRL and LDRL will take place between 1-3pm prior to England’s Wheelchair international against France at Robin Park Leisure Centre on Saturday.
The activities will close at Robin Park Arena with a celebration of junior rugby ahead of Sunday’s international fixture at The Brick Community Stadium. Players are invited to join a carousel of activities and challenges between 12:30-2pm.
