Nsemba wins Young Player of the Year
Wigan Warriors Second-Row Junior Nsemba was crowned Young Player of the Year at Tuesday’s annual Super League Awards.
The 20-year-old has had a breakthrough year with the Club and recently signed a new 6-year deal with the Club. The award sees Nsemba as just the second forward to win the award in the last decade.
The Man of Steel award went to Hull KR’s Mikey Lewis, who the Warriors will come head-to-head with in this weekend’s Betfred Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford. His Head Coach, Willie Peters was also victorious as Coach of the Year which Matt Peet was a nominee for.
In the Women’s Awards, York Valkyrie’s Georgie Hetherington was crowned Woman of Steel whilst St Helens’ Boss Matty Smith was awarded Coach of the Year, pipping Warriors nominee Denis Betts. Wigan also had Eva Hunter and Isabel Rowe in the running for Young Player of the Year, though Leeds’ Bella Sykes took home the award on the night.
In the Wheelchair Awards, Leeds’ Josh Butler won the Wheels of Steel award whilst Halifax Panthers Wayne Boardman was named Coach of the Year. With Wigan’s Nathan Roberts nominated, it was Rob Hawkins of Halifax Panthers who won his second Young Player of the Year award.
