Matt Peet spoke to the press on Tuesday afternoon ahead of Friday night’s betfred super league clash against leeds rhinos.

The Warriors regained pole position in the Betfred Super League table following a Round 25 win over Hull KR last time out.

Reflecting on the result, Peet said: “It was a fantastic game. The Club put on a good event, pre-match was amazing, both sets of fans delivered, and the match was what we were all after. I would have been pretty proud of the players even if the result didn’t go our way. The players were able to respond to some adversity to play some good rugby and score some excellent tries.”

On improvements to take despite the win, Peet said: “Hull KR’s quality highlighted a few areas we need to be better in, but that’s the good thing about such an intense game. We’ll learn some things from the start of the game and defensively we can be better for sure. We can take positives out of the way we responded to the situation we were in. We continued to play good rugby whilst backing our skill to turn the game.”

On the mentality of his squad, Peet said: “The lads are now very good at handling different situations because they’ve been through so much together. We’ve also got a really good leadership group who are good at managing the ebbs and flows of not just the season, but individual games. If we keep trusting and helping one another out on the field, then we will always have a chance with the ability we have.”

Looking ahead to Friday night’s clash against Leeds Rhinos, Peet said: “I’ve been very impressed with Leeds. Their attitude to defence has certainly improved under Brad [Arthur] and they still have that X Factor with the ball which makes them a really well-balanced team. We are all very, very aware that this is going to be a tough game because of the quality Leeds have.”

On Friday night’s double-header, which also sees Wigan Warriors Women take on Leeds Rhinos Women, Peet said: “Denis and his staff have done a great job this season. Our links with the Women’s team are building all the time and hopefully they’re learning a little bit from us as we are certainly learning from them. It’s great for the Club and great for our supporters who can hopefully come down to watch both games.”
