Recall previous home victories over Hull KR

Ahead of Friday night’s Betfred Super League top of the table clash, we look back at FIVE previous home WINS over HULL KR.

Matt Peet’s side host current table toppers Hull KR in a crucial Betfred Super League Round 25 meeting at The Brick Community Stadium.

As the days until the hugely anticipated clash shorten, we go over five previous home wins over Hull KR in the Super League era.

Wigan Warriors 18-12 Hull KR, 2008

A late Mark Calderwood try sealed the Warriors first Super League home win over an in-form Hull KR at the third attempt.

Liam Colbon’s double built a 10-0 lead for the Warriors before Hull KR hit back with two tries in three minutes to go ahead. Pat Richards’ penalty levelled the contest before Calderwood crossed with four minutes remaining to ensure the points went to Brian Noble’s side.

Wigan Warriors 36-22 Hull KR, 2012

Josh Charnley scored three of seven tries for the Warriors who went top of the Super League table.

An emphatic start from Wigan saw Charnley, Sam Tomkins and Lee Mossop cross for tries in the opening 18 minutes before play was halted whilst referee Phil Bentham was stretchered off after sustaining a broken leg. Anthony Gelling and Charnley increased the lead further but Hull KR responded before the break through Ben Galea.

Charnley and Gelling crossed for tries either side of Shannon McDonnell grounding before Josh Hodgson and Kris Weltham reduced the points difference with tries in the closing stages.

Wigan Warriors 21-16 Hull KR, 2013

A Charnley double ensured the Warriors returned to the top of the table following a Round 23 win over the Robins.

Charnley opened the scoring for Wigan after 13 minutes but the Robins hit back through Greg Eden. After losing Sean O’Loughlin through injury, the Warriors fell behind when Michael Dobson crossed in the corner, however, a fine move on the hooter saw Darrell Goulding level the score at the break.

The Warriors, who had established a 10 point lead after tries from Charnley and Gelling plus Matty Smith’s one-pointer, held on for the win despite Evarn Tuimavave diving over for a late consolation.

Wigan Warriors 60-0 Hull KR, 2015

Joe Burgess scored a hat-trick as the Warriors scored 11 tries in an emphatic attacking display.

Dom Crosby, Burgess and Liam Farrell went over inside 10 minutes before Burgess added his second alongside tries from Joel Tomkins and George Williams to give the Warriors a 34-0 lead at the break.

Dan Sarginson, Dom Manfredi and Taulima Tautai got their names on the scoresheet before Williams crossed for his second as Burgess completed his second successive treble having scored a hat-trick in Wigan’s win at Wakefield Trinity.

Wigan Warriors 42-12 Hull KR, 2023

The Warriors were victorious in their last home outing against Hull KR to book their place in the Betfred Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford.

A lightning Wigan start saw Liam Marshall cross twice alongside Jai Field in the opening 12 minutes, although Elliot Minchella cut the score to 18-6 at the break.

Marshall completed his hat-trick three minutes after the restart before tries from Toby King, Field and Abbas Miski built a 42-6 advantage as Harry Smith maintained a perfect record from the tee. Jez Litten dived over in the closing stages for the visitors, however, the Warriors supporters were fully celebrating a trip to Old Trafford.
