Peet previews Catalans

Matt Peet has spoken to the press as wigan Warriors prepare to face Catalans Dragons at the stade gilbert brutus.
Speaking on the Betfred Super League meeting in Perpignan, Peet said: “We fly out tomorrow before coming back on Sunday. Since I’ve been involved the Catalans fixture has always been one where you have a lot to contend with but it’s also one we are excited about. It’s just a unique fixture with real character.”
Looking ahead to the clash, Peet said: “There’s a lot to look forward to but in the middle there’s a real tough game. We have a lot of respect for Catalans on the field and we know exactly what they’re all about and vice versa. They’ve got so much experience, they’ve got good cohesion through the spine, and now that they’ve got so much French influence, they have that pride in the badge.”
The Warriors will be backed by a strong away support, and on the fans, Peet said: “Our fans will bring energy. It’s a great feeling when you see all them all over there and I’m sure each year it gets earlier – I’ve had pictures being sent through since Monday. It motivates us to make sure the fans have a great time and we have a big part in that with having a duty to perform.”
On Kaide Ellis, who returns to the 21-player squad alongside Bevan French, Peet said: “He’s one of the players that internally gets a lot of praise for the way he plays, the way he carries himself, and for what he brings. It’s credit to Kaide and the work he’s done to develop himself into that loose forward role. He’s struck a really good balance with not always ball playing and not always ball carrying. It will be great to bring Kaide back as captain.”
On the Academy presence within the squad this season, Peet said: “We speak about our Academy a lot and rightly so. The person that doesn’t get his name out very often but who has been excellent is Shane Eccles our Head of Youth. He leads our Academy in a great fashion from top to bottom and it’s a privilege knowing that not only do we get players coming through, but given the right support and trust they often pay you back.”
Peet added: “There’s times when these players don’t get it right and it’s them moments when you show your metal as a Club by supporting and sticking with them. They get the opportunity when one presents itself and it’s up to them how they take it. They then pay you back because it matters so much to them.”
