Zach Eckersley is determined to finish the season strongly as the warriors prepare to face hull fc at the brick community stadium.
The 20-year-old has made 13 appearances in all competitions for the Warriors so far this season which has included vital tries in the Betfred Challenge Cup win over Warrington Wolves and the Betfred Super League Round 17 derby victory over St Helens.
Eckersley started at centre in Wigan’s 20-0 Magic Weekend victory over St Helens at Elland Road last time out, and on the experience, he said: “It was actually my first ever Magic Weekend – I’d never been to one before or even watched one.
“It’s a big event in the Super League calendar and I enjoyed the spectacle of playing in front of a big crowd in a big stadium. It was a great experience and the fact we were able to record a derby win made the occasion even more special.”
Reflecting personally on the season so far, Eckersley said: “I’ve loved every moment. The boys were great when I first came in and even when I came out for a few weeks, I had to continue working hard to try and get back in. I’ve enjoyed the experience so far and my aim now is to just help the team as much as I can.”
Following an injury to Jai Field sustained in the Betfred Challenge Cup Final, Eckersley started four Betfred Super League matches at fullback which in return saw him score in back-to-back games against St Helens and Hull FC.
On playing fullback, Eckersley said: “I played there a handful of times for the Academy and Reserves. I spent a lot of time chatting with Jai [Field], Bevan [French] and Lockers [Sean O’Loughlin] who all helped massively with the positional side of the role. I’ll play anywhere I’m told to play – I don’t mind. My main goal is to enjoy every minute that I’m on the pitch whilst giving my all for the team.”
Looking ahead to Sunday’s clash against Hull FC, Eckersley said: “It will be anther tough test but we’re back in front of our fans who will bring a good atmosphere. We’ve had a strong week in training so hopefully we can turn that into a good performance on Sunday to get the win.”
