- FT | Wigan Warriors 16-48 Hull FC.
Match Report as Wigan Warriors Wheelchair fell to a 48-16 defeat against Hull FC at Robin Park Leisure Centre on Saturday afternoon.
Making his first Super League start, Daniel Dutson took less than one minute to put Wigan in front as an acrobatic effort saw him touchdown in the left corner. Due to the angle, Toby Burton-Carter wasn’t able to add the extras but Wigan were 4-0 ahead.
Taking advantage of the additional possession, Hull FC were able to hit back and take the lead after Mike Swainger was able to reach out and score in the right corner. It was Josh Edwards with the conversion that made it 6-4.
Edwards was the next to cross the line, with the addition of another 2 points, to put Hull in firm control at 12-4.
Things got better for the Black & Whites, and inadvertently worse for Wigan, when former Warrior Martin Norris was able to chase down his own kick and increase the lead.
Having earned a call up to the national team due to his strong performances, Tristan Norfolk showed why with a double, plus another from Edwards, to put FC firmly in the driving seat. With all three conversations being successful, the score was now 36-4 to the Away side.
A little chink of light for the Cherry & Whites came towards the end of the half when Adam Rigby’s cut out pass gave Dutson room to roll in for his second. Burton-Carter making sure from the tee on this occasion to send the teams in at 10-36 at the turnaround.
Wigan quickly reduced the deficit with another try after the restart. Having started the move, Nathan Roberts released Adam Rigby down the left flank where he was able to use his pace to outstrip the Hull defence. Narrowing the gap further, Burton-Carter added the extras.
The second 40 minutes was a much closer contest, but having been on the end of some last minute defeats, Hull FC weren’t prepared to take their foot of the gas until the last minute. Attacking the blindside, Nathan Sherwood spotted a gap on the defensive line and put his side further in front.
Having worked hard for 60 minutes, Dutson and Matt Wooloff were replaced by Reece Duddle and Super League debutant Tom Welch.
Sealing the win with his hat-trick try, Norfolk crossed one final time for Hull FC before adding the conversation to make it 48-16 in favour of the visitors.
