Matt Peet praised his side’s ‘reaction and desire’ as wigan warriors beat st helens to nil during magic weekend at elland road.

The Warriors scored tries through Liam Marshall, Jack Farrimond and Sam Walters in Leeds alongside a huge defensive effort to ensure a return to the top of the Betfred Super League table.

Speaking on the performance post-match, Peet said: “I’m pleased. We can always look for improvements and I can certainly see where we can develop further but our reaction to any adversity and our desire to look after one another was pretty much there for the full 80.”

Providing an update on Liam Farrell, who was a late omission from the side, Peet said: “Liam’s had a tight calf all week, but he thought he’d be okay – I wasn’t expecting that chat from the physios. Looking ahead it will be more of our decision what to do with it – we’ve got to be smart.”

Praising Walters, who crossed for his first Warriors try in the win, Peet said: “Sam came in and performed his best game for Wigan. Right from the start his physicality on both sides of the ball was right and if he can get like that then his ability will look after itself – I’m made up for him.”

Adam Keighran and Jack Farrimond started in the halves for the Warriors, and on their performance, Peet said: “As expected there were periods in the game where they disconnected but they started the game very much in sync. They’ve worked very hard this week with Tommy Leuluai who I called on the way home from training through the week to tell him that regardless of how the game would go that he has coached outstandingly well. He empowered the players and encouraged them with a simple plan which the players bought into.”

Praising the young talent in both squads, Peet said: “I watched our Academy last night – Paul Wellens was there as well – and it was an outstanding game. You look at the home-grown young talent in both squads and they will go on to be outstanding players. It’s a privilege to be the one to pick them and when you do the important thing is that you look after and nurture them in the right way.”

The Warriors return home next Sunday as Hull FC visit The Brick Community Stadium. Tickets for the Betfred Super League clash are available to purchase from The Brick Community Stadium Ticket Office or online HERE.
