Touch Rugby players to compete in France

Wigan Warriors Community Foundation would like to wish our five Community Touch Rugby players good luck as they travel to the European Junior Touch Rugby Championships in Vichy, France this weekend.

Jake Rigby, Charlie Wood, Annie Ainscough, Noah Wheatley and Tom Lowe will all travel to and play in the European Junior Touch Championships at Parc Omnisports du Vichy this weekend, starting on Friday 16th August. The players will compete at U15s, U18s and U20s level with all Finals to take place on Sunday. The full fixture schedule can be found online HERE.

We would also like to send best wishes to non-travelling Reserves Zach McMullen, Elizabeth Davies, Dylan Sharpe and Adam Peacock. You can watch all the games from the weekend on YouTube HERE.

Kevin Hattersley, Touch Rugby Lead Coach said:  “I can’t praise the players and staff enough for all their hard work and dedication to developing themselves and players around them, well done to all the players selected and considered – enjoy the occasion.

Wigan Warriors Rugby Development Manager, John Whalley, added: “A massive congratulations to all the players! To have nine players considered from our Touch Rugby Pathway and five of those players to make the final squad is fantastic, we are proud of them all, to represent your Country in any sport at any level is a special moment for them and their families.”

Wigan Warriors Touch Player, Annie Ainscough, who will compete this weekend said: “Wigan Warriors Touch Rugby Team has a brilliant Community feel to it, it has help me develop so much over the last few months which has led to an England Touch Rugby call up for the second time.

“To play for your Country is an immense feeling of pride a fantastic opportunity and I can’t wait to play in France.”
