Matt Peet spoke to the press at Elland Road on Monday afternoon as all the Clubs gathered for a Media Event ahead of the 17th Magic Weekend.

The Warriors come into the game off the back of a 30-4 loss at AMT Headingley Stadium last Saturday. Reflecting on the game, the Head Coach said: “We were disappointed with the end result and the finish to the game. I thought some of the fatigue from the previous few weeks caught up with us but we should have been better at the start of the game.

“Our effort and intensity was good but our execution was poor and we failed to build any real pressure through that period. Leeds deserved the win.”

The Warriors now move on to Round 22, which is the 17th annual Magic Weekend event at it’s sixth venue – this time Elland Road in Leeds. The event sees a repeat of the last time the Warriors took to the Elland Road pitch when we faced St Helens in the Betfred Challenge Cup Semi Finals in 2022.

On the concept of Magic Weekend, Matt Peet said: “I’m biased so I always go back to the good Wigan wins. I just think the whole atmosphere over the weekend is an exciting one. I think there’ll be some great moments across all the games and I look forward to it.”

He added: “Magic Weekend always has a big game feel about it, it’s a carnival atmosphere and a good opportunity for all the fans, players and staff to be together over the same weekend.

Speaking on this weeks’ opponents, Peet also said: “The fact that it’s Wigan v Saints – it’s a fantastic challenge for us, we know what they bring in terms of energy and intensity.

“Even when they’ve not been winning games their intensity and commitment to defend is always really high and we expect nothing less this weekend.”
