Report
A physical start to the proceedings saw both sides go set-for-set as Jake Wardle looked to go over but the Warriors were pulled back for an offside in the build up to see the scores remain 0-0. Similarly, Liam Farrell looked to race away for a score after a knock on from Leeds but play was pulled back for a scrum on half way.
The Rhinos opened the scoring through Harry Newman in the 16th minute. A break on the left edge from Rhys Martin saw a pass inside to Lachlan Miller to send Newman over under the sticks despite a good chase from Jai Field. The effort was sent to the video referee before being confirmed, as Martin converted the score to make it 6-0.
Wigan looked for an instant response as Luke Thompson drove towards the goal line but the forward was held-up over the whitewash before a grubber from Jai Field, who chased the kick himself, was knocked behind by Leeds for a goal line drop up with the resulting set played out in full for the turnover.
Rhyse Martin added a two-pointer close to half-time following a penalty for a high tackle from close range to put Leeds Rhinos out to 8-0 at the turnaround.
The Warriors went close after the restart as Jake Wardle took on the defensive line before being stopped inches short by a wall of blue to be denied for the turnover of possession. Rhinos’ Miller went close before being stopped well by Liam Byrne short of the line but Wigan were penalised in the next play for an offside. Rhyse Martin added the penalty goal to make it 10-0.0
Soon after, Lachlan Miller extended the advantage for the Rhinos in the 55th minute after slipping through the defensive line and muscling over on the left edge. Martin added the extras from the touchline to make it 16-0 to Leeds. Adam Keighran was then shown a yellow card for a high tackle as Leeds shouted for the tee again to notch the score to 18-0.
With Wigan looking for a way back, Jai Field sent Nsemba flying onto a ball on the left edge but his offload to Marshall on the wing was jungle to end up back in Rhinos hands. The home side worked their way upfield to see former Warrior James McDonnell over for Leeds’ third try of the afternoon. Martin converted and it was 24-0.
The Warriors got on the scoreboard in the 72nd minute as a penalty for interference saw Wigan get a set 40m out. Good play on the left allowed Jai Field to send Jake Wardle through a gap to offload to Marshall who went over in the left corner. Keighran couldn’t add the touchline conversion as it stood 24-4.
Harry Smith was shown a red card with two minutes to go and Leeds took full advantage of the extra man as Brodie Croft sent a crossfield kick, which was collected in the air by Momirovski, to send Rhyse Martin over. The second rower converted his own score on the hooter to confirm a 30-4 win for Leeds.
