Peet on Leeds defeat
- Matt Peet has shared his thoughts following the Warriors’ defeat to Leeds Rhinos.
- Peet: “Our energy at the start of the game wasn’t an issue, it was more our execution.”
- FT | Leeds Rhinos 30-4 Wigan Warriors.
Matt Peet has reflected on Wigan Warriors’ Betfred Super League Round 21 defeat to Leeds Rhinos at AMT Headingley Stadium.
The Warriors suffered a fourth loss of the season in West Yorkshire as Liam Marshall crossed for Wigan’s sole try in the closing stages.
Speaking post-match, Peet said: “Really disappointed. We came out to compete and to play well in the hope of getting two points which would have put us in a great position. Leeds had some good moments in the game and after that we did some poor things with and without the ball. It was a poor end to the game for us.”
The Warriors were twice reduced to 12 players in the second half after Adam Keighran was sent to the sin bin before Harry Smith was shown a red card for head contact with three minutes remaining.
On discipline, Peet said: “I was disappointed by our discipline in general. There were a few penalties from things we didn’t need to do – we just all need to be better.”
The clash against the Rhinos was Wigan’s third fixture in nine days, and on the recent schedule, Peet said: “There’s no doubt it’s been a tough turnaround but I don’t want to use that as an excuse. I do commend the players for their efforts. Our energy at the start of the game wasn’t an issue, it was more the execution.”
Liam Farrell made his 400th career appearence in the defeat, and on the Warriors captain, Peet said: “It’s a shame we couldn’t get a result for him but there is plenty more ahead for Liam. There is no doubt Liam is a great leader and that he will lead us to more great times.”
The Warriors take on St Helens at Leeds’ Elland Road in the Betfred Super League Magic Weekend next Saturday. Tickets remain on sale HERE.
