Matt Peet spoke to the press on Monday morning ahead of the Warriors’ Round 2 Betfred Super League Clash against Leigh Leopards at The Brick Community Stadium.

The Warriors arrive into the fixture – which was rearranged after clashing with the World Club Challenge back in February – having taken victory last time out, when they amounted a second-half comeback to beat Huddersfield Giants at The Brick Community Stadium.

Speaking on what impressed him most about the team’s performance to get the win, Head Coach Matt Peet said: “I think the simplicity of our game. There’s no doubt that in the first-half we played with a bit of tension in our core skill and when you do that you put everything else under pressure.

“So, I think we just stripped it back a little bit, played direct, and eventually we found a little bit of quality. It was a step in the right direction I would say.”

Tuesday night’s matchup with Leigh presents the second of three Betfred Super League games in 10 days for Peet’s side, with a trip to West Yorkshire to face Leeds Rhinos also beckoning on Saturday afternoon.

On the busy schedule, Peet said: “It brings challenges physically and mentally for the players more than anything, but it’s something that we knew was coming for a while, that we’ve been prepared for. We’ll see what we can learn from the challenge, see what we can take from the test, and ultimately it’s what we look at as three important games.

“I’d like to think we’ve done a good job around the players’ recovery – it’s something that we always take very seriously, but we’ve thrown some extra resources at it. When the players have been in it’s been short and focused, so they do get some time to freshen up with the family as well.”

The Warriors and the Leopards last faced one another at the start of July, with the Cherry and Whites running out as 24-6 victors on that occasion. Since then, Adrian Lam’s side have found form, winning all four of their fixtures following the defeat.

On this Tuesday’s opponents, Peet said: “They’re an excellent team. Every time we play them or every time I watch them – even when they have players missing – you can see what they’re about. They’re very physical and I think they’ve got some of the best attacking shape in the competition.

“Lammy (Adrian Lam) has got them firing – we never doubted that he would – and I think it’s testament to him and his staff that they’ve managed to keep the team on track through those tough periods.”
