Community Touch Rugby lead, Kev Hattersley said: “The touch rugby programme was formed by Wigan Warriors Community Foundation to encourage adults who needed a focus and help people get into sport while getting fit and building a social network in turn helping with mental health issues with over 135 adults and 70 kids now attending weekly.
“The programme has grown over the last few years with its unique approach and inclusivity with sessions for juniors from 6-16 and adult sessions aged 14+.”
He added: “For SWS Northwest LTD to invest by way of corporate sponsorship into the programme, it’s a massive boost and it secures the future of the programme as it stands but also opens up more resources to engage with the wider community.
“I truly hope the relationship can last for a long time and we can continue to change lives through touch rugby.”
Wigan Warriors Community Foundation Rugby League Development Manager, John Whalley added: “Touch Rugby is fantastic, has a real Community feel and a great opportunity for players as young as 6 years old with no age restrictions to come and enjoy fun and social engagement weekly. The sponsorship from Shaun at SWS Northwest Ltd will allow us as a Community Foundation to increase participation and give more opportunities to people in our community.”
