Marshall signs new four-year deal

  • Liam Marshall signs a new four-year deal with the Warriors.
  • Current 2024 top try scorer to remain at Wigan until end of 2028.
  • Marshall: “Me and my family are all proud Wiganers and look forward to what the future has to offer.”

Wigan Warriors are delighted to announce that winger Liam Marshall has signed a new four-year contract with the Club.

The deal will mean Marshall will remain with the Club until the end of the 2028 season, in what will be his 12th professional season at Wigan.

Marshall made his debut in a 20-0 win against Leigh at the then DW Stadium on the 3 March 2017 and now, in his eighth season, has made 175 appearances scoring 146 tries and 10 goals.

The 28-year-old was top try scorer for the Club in 2019 and is on course to repeat that feat this season with 20 Betfred Super League tries and six in the Challenge Cup.

Perhaps his most memorable career score came at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium where he scored the winner in the 2022 Betfred Challenge Cup Final, he was also Wigan’s only try scorer against Catalans in the 2023 Betfred Super League Grand Final victory.

The former Academy product, now one of the leadership team, continues to be a popular member of the squad with both players and supporters.

On signing the new deal, Marshall said: “I’m honoured to be able to extend my time at my boyhood club. Since signing at 17 I have never imagined myself playing anywhere else. I’m very lucky to be part of this great team and great town, and me and my family are all proud Wiganers and look forward to what the future has to offer.

“Personally, this year has been one of very mixed emotions for our family, but the way the club behaved and looked after us all will never be forgotten by me and my family, making this an easy decision for us to stay.”

Head coach Matt Peet added: “Liam is integral to what we want to build as a team and as a Club. He has the skillset of an outstanding winger and we love him for his attitude, determination and commitment that rubs off on everyone around him.

“I think our fans will be as happy as we are to see Liam extend his time with the Club, including a Testimonial that he will thoroughly deserve.”

Chief Executive Kris Radlinski said: “On many occasions Liam has come up with the big plays in the big games. He is creeping up the all-time try scoring list for our great club and the way in which he has done it, in such a humble manner, is so admirable.

“Liam brings so much more to our Club though – he sets the tone for the whole establishment and he’s a great role model for young boys in Wigan. This contract will enable him to get a benefit season from the Club, and I have no doubt the whole fan base will support this unassuming superstar.”
