Jai Field shared his delight after returning to action in Wigan Warriors’ 28-14 win over Huddersfield Giants at The Brick Community Stadium.

Despite trailing 8-0 to the Giants at the break, the Warriors scored four second half tries to turn the contest around and seal the two points.

Field, who started for the first time since the Betfred Challenge Cup Final win at Wembley Stadium in June, produced a moment of brilliance on 63 minutes to cross for Wigan’s third try.

Speaking on his return to action, Field said: “It was good to get the win and nice to be back out there with the boys. The lungs got tested as we had to do a lot of defending for the period I was on, but that’s all good for the confidence and the back of the mind.”

Reflecting on the performance, Field said: “The first half errors definitely hurt us. We had to do a lot of defending which took a lot out of our tank, so we had to try and break that cycle down. It was good to get the momentum swing after Jake Wardle’s try and after that the game opened up.”

Field came off for Zach Eckersley in a pre-planned change with 15 minutes remaining. The replacement fullback crossed for Wigan’s final try in the closing stages as he collected a creative kick out a scrum to dive over in the corner.

Praising Eckersley’s recent performances, Field said: “It’s not easy being in Zach’s position where you are in and out the team, however, he’s stuck to it and now he’s getting his rewards. Having his versatility has certainly helped and I’m really pleased for him.”

The Warriors face Leigh Leopards at The Brick Community Stadium on Tuesday night in the rearranged Betfred Super League Round 2 fixture.

Looking ahead to the clash and the atmosphere, Field said: “It’s always great when we face Leigh so it’s another match we are all looking forward to. We probably won’t do as much this week on the field due to the short turnaround so our recovery will be important heading into another tough test.”

Tickets for Tuesday night’s clash against the Leopards remain on sale from The Brick Community Stadium Ticket Office and online HERE.
