Matt Peet spoke to the press on Tuesday afternoon ahead of the Warriors’ Round 20 tie against Huddersfield Giants at The Brick Community Stadium on Thursday 1st August.
The Warriors will be looking to rekindle their formidable home form when they welcome Huddersfield Giants to The Brick Community Stadium this Thursday, having suffered a first defeat on home soil since May 2023 last time out against Warrington Wolves.
On the team’s response to the loss, Peet said: “I think we just want to play better, we want to find better performances individually and collectively.
“We’re also aware that these things happen and quite often your learning and development comes mostly through some tough days, so we do take the positives out of it as well.”
The nature of the upcoming schedule provides Peet and his side an opportunity to quickly bounce back from the two defeats, with the clash against Huddersfield being the first of three Betfred Super League games in just 10 days for the Warriors.
On the weeks ahead, Peet said: “I like to think we have a professional group of players and I think they’re quite enthused by it. Regardless of what’s happened before, we’re going to be seeking our best performance. There’s some things we’ve identified that, we believe if we fix them, can bring momentum to our game and that’s what we’ll be aiming to do.
“It’s a little bit different but it’s fresh, it’s exciting and there’s some massive games. In terms of the opposition, it’s three exciting fixtures.”
Peet provided an update on the status of Brad O’Neill, who limped off in the second half of Friday’s loss against Warrington, confirming the hooker is set for an extended spell on the sidelines: “He had a scan last night that confirmed it’s an ACL, but he’s got a follow up with the specialist”, said Peet. “As far as timeframe, you’re looking at upwards of nine months.
“All our concern is with Brad, but he seems to be handling himself really well. He did his other ACL as a junior player, so he kind of knew that’s what it was. He knows how to rehab it, he’s been through these things before and he’s determined to come back stronger than ever.”
With Thursday’s match signalling the Club’s annual Blue Light Night at The Brick Community Stadium, Peet said: “It’s a good initiative and I think it’s one of those things the Club does really well.
“It is a cause and a group of people that we want to take every opportunity to pay our respects to, and I think it’s fantastic that the Club can present this opportunity. Hopefully the fixture is fitting.”
