- FT | Hull FC 24-22 Wigan Warriors.
Matt Peet spoke to the press following the Warriors’ defeat to Hull FC at the MKM Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Warriors found themselves 24-4 down with 20 minutes remaining on the road at Hull with late tries from Brad O’Neill, Liam Marshall and Zach Eckersley not enough to claw back the difference.
Speaking at the full-time hooter, the Warriors Head Coach said: “I’m disappointed with the performance, particularly the start of the game – I thought we were poor with and without the ball. Credit to Hull FC I thought they were outstanding both in the terms of the way they played with the ball, ends to sets were disciplined and their scramble defence was good, they played with a lot of desire.
“In every game of Rugby League, if you don’t get the start right you put yourself in danger, and so it proved. There was a lot of energy and effort at the end, but it was too late.”
Reflecting on the game, he added: “I thought coming out of our end we uncharacteristically turned some ball over but that’s also credit to Hull FC in the positions they put us in with their kicking game and they defended with energy but we failed to deal with it.”
The Warriors now head into a busy period, which includes another meeting with Warrington Wolves at The Brick Community Stadium and Magic Weekend on the horizon: “They’re exciting games aren’t they. Today is a reminder that anything less than our best won’t cut it.”
The Warriors are back in action this Friday night at home to Warrington Wolves. Tickets for the R19 fixture are available online HERE or from The Brick Community Stadium Ticket Office (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm).
