England PDRL ‘train on’ squad announced

England Community Lions PDRL Head Coach, Michelle Melling, has selected a 23-player ‘train on’ squad, which includes Three Warriors

The two-game series will be the pinnacle of this year’s international programme, with the squad selected off the back of development days and domestic representative fixtures. These came as part of a new international programme developed to incorporate a more inclusive approach to representative PDRL.

Melling has been at the forefront of the rejuvenated international programme and successfully led England in their victories against Wales last year.

England Community Lions PDRL Head Coach, Michelle Melling, said: “2023 was a pivotal and exciting year for the sport. The physical disability game is still in its infancy, so it was key for us to keep up the momentum of the international programme heading into 2024 and I am really pleased we can confirm three fixtures against Wales this year.

“With those games in mind, I’m thrilled to name the 23-player squad who will be part of this year’s programme – the sport is growing rapidly, so the player pool is only getting stronger meaning more competition to earn that shirt and making it more difficult for me to make my decisions.”

PDRL is a full contact version of the game with non-contact roles, adapted for ambulatory participants with a physical disability. England’s 23-player train on squad is drawn from five Super League and Championship clubs foundations: Castleford Tigers; Leeds Rhinos; Wakefield Trinity; Warrington Wolves and Wigan Warriors.
