Farrimond: Loved every minute
- Jack Farrimond reflected on the last few weeks after his first derby game against St Helens, as Wigan Warriors won in front of over 20,000 at The Brick Community Stadium.
- Farrimond: “It was a tough game, but I loved every minute of it.”

JACK Farrimond spoke after Wigan Warriors’ Betfred Super League victory at home to St Helens on derby day.
The Warriors twice came back from behind to level the scores with St Helens, before Zach Eckersley’s try with 10 minutes to go sealed victory in Farrimond’s first senior derby, extending their lead at the top of the Betfred Super League table.
Speaking on the battle, Farrimond said: “It was always going to be a game of who wanted it more. You look at some of the scramble efforts that we had, like Thommo (Luke Thompson) knocking that ball dead in the last minute – you never expect a middle to be there, but it just shows what it meant to some players to win today.
“It was a tough game, but I loved every minute of it.”
18-year-old Farrimond felt the team adapted well to the task at hand to reach victory: “It’s tough not having Jai (Field) and Bevan (French) with the things they can do out of nothing, but I think it’s made us play a little bit more simple”, he said. “We’ve just focused on getting the basics right so we can feed off the back of that.”
Having made an impressive debut earlier on in the 2024 season away to London Broncos, Farrimond was again called upon for his second senior appearance in the June’s reverse fixture.
With a Man of the Match performance to help beat the Broncos, the 18-year-old half-back then held his place in the side against Leigh Leopards and most recently St Helens, making three consecutive appearances and wins on the bounce.
Reflecting on the last few weeks, Farrimond said: “It’s coming along quite fast, faster than I expected. Obviously, on the back of a couple of injuries to the lads, I got my opportunity and I’ve given myself a place in the team.
“Hopefully I keep building on it and keep learning off the lads around me. Jai (Field) and Bevan (French) are still around in training and they’ve been massive for my improvement and keep tipping me up on little things.”
Looking back at the victory against Leigh – Farrimond’s hometown – he added: “It was great. Obviously I had a quite a few of my mates in the away end giving me loads of stick and then the day after when I went to see them as well, so I had a couple of days of abuse!
“But no, they were all really proud of me.”
Next up for the Warriors, it’s back on the road as we travel to the MKM Stadium this Saturday afternoon (2pm K.O.) to face Hull FC. Tickets are available now by clicking HERE.
