Rease Casey is looking forward to ‘the challenge’ as Wigan Warriors Women face St Helens Women this Friday night in the first game of the Derby Double-Header at The Brick Community Stadium.
The Warriors Women come into Friday’s derby off the back of a 50-0 win over Featherstone Rovers last time out. Reflecting on the game, Casey said: “It was quite a rough game. It was pretty challenging at the start but we settled into our ways and set our shape and we turned it around into a good win in the end.
“I think I prefer the tougher games, having that bit of a challenge, they’re definitely a highlight. It gives us chance as a team to give it to the other team and we’re slowly learning to keep our performances more consistent. I also love a challenge.”
The Warriors take great pride in having won two games to nil in Betfred Women’s Super League this season, and only conceding 50 points so far. Casey explained: “The defence is something we’re always working on. There’s been a couple of games where it’s been lacking what we set as our standards but we always work on getting back to that standard and it’s definitely one of our strengths at the moment.”
Looking ahead to facing St Helens at The Brick Community Stadium on Friday night, she added: “The first game against them we were a bit disappointed with the result but it’s definitely set the bar going into this second game and we’re looking forward to coming up against them this Friday.
“It’s quite nerve-racking even having played out here [The Brick Community Stadium] before but it’s really exciting and a great experience to be able to play in the stadium and we look forward to doing it again this Friday night in the Derby.”
