  • FT | Wigan Warriors 24-6 Leigh Leopards.

Matt Peet praised his side after Wigan Warriors beat leigh leopards 24-6 at the brick community stadium.

The Warriors scored four tries through Bevan French (x2), Liam Marshall and Liam Farrell to claim the two points in physical Betfred Super League clash.

Reflecting on the victory, Peet said: “I’m really pleased. We came up against a really good Leigh team who were determined and with a lot to play for. There were lots of tests tonight but the group delivered.”

Jake Wardle recorded three assists in the win, and on the performance, Peet said: “He’s just very good at playing rugby league. He must be a nightmare to defend against because you can’t just be aggressive as he has a lot of ability. He’s got a great partnership with the players around him and he’s a pleasure to coach.”

Praising Brad O’Neill, Peet said: “It’s not just the amount of work that he does, it’s the quality whilst always trying to make the perfect tackle and win the collisions. We had to look after him this week after he came back from England and I did have a little concern going into the game that there might have been some tiredness but he was outstanding.”

Providing an update on Mike Cooper, who failed a HIA in the early stages, Peet said: “When something is that clean it’s important that the player is looked after. It’s never nice to see but these things happen in games of rugby and when they do the short and long term health of the player has to be the priority.”

Looking ahead to next Friday’s clash against St Helens at The Brick Community Stadium, Peet said: “We expect that the level might go up again next week but as long as the lads continue to turn up for each other like they did tonight then I’ll back them all the way.”

Tickets for Friday night’s Derby double-header against St Helens are on sale from The Brick Community Stadium Ticket Office and online HERE.
