Wigan & Leigh Champion Schools 2024

Robin Park Arena recently played host to the 2024 Wigan & Leigh Champion Schools competition in a week of fantastic Rugby League action.

Four year groups from Years 7-10 competed in the boys finals with three year groups competing in the girls finals from Years 7-9. All winners can be found below:

Boys

Year 7 – St Peter’s 36-6 Deanery

Player of the match was Jake Porter of St Peter’s.

Year 8 – St Peter’s 6-14 Bedford High

Player of the match was Alfie Ainscough of Bedford High.

Year 9 – St Peter’s 16-14 Standish High.

Player of the match was Lucas O’Connor of St Peter’s.

Year 10 – Standish High 14-12 St Mary’s.

Player of the match was Lucas Featherstone of St Mary’s.

Girls  

Year 7 – Bedford High 40-14 St Peter’s.

Player of the Match was Bella McNally of Bedford High.

Year 8 – St John Fisher 32-6 St Edmund Arrowsmith.

Player of the Match was Ffion Wheatley of St John Fisher.

Year 9 – St Peter’s 4-16 Deanery.

Player of the Match was Eva Rigby of Deanery.

Speaking on the competitions, Wigan Warriors Development Officer Tom Marsh, said: “The standard of Rugby on show for both boys and girls finals was outstanding.

“It just shows what a great job teachers do to develop Rugby League in their own schools. Both events were a huge success and I’m already looking forward to these events next year.”

Wigan Warriors Development Manager John Whalley added: “To hold both the boys and girls Finals at Robin Park Arena for the first time is fantastic. The standard of Rugby League across the games has been very high and to hold the first ever girls finals is a huge step in the right direction with three-year groups participating.”
