Fisher on Armed Forces Celebration

Wigan Warriors Women’s Alice Fisher, who is a member of the RAF, looks ahead to the armed forces celebration at the Brick Community Stadium this friday as the Warriors take on London Broncos.

Living in an area surrounded by RAF Stations whilst in High School it was always on the list of careers that stood out to Fisher, who applied at the earliest opportunity once completing her GCSEs and joined the RAF aged 17 in 2010.

Fisher currently holds the rank of Sergeant and recently transitioned into RAF Recruitment and Selection. This involves processing candidates applications, carrying out selection interviews and administering medical and fitness test bookings whilst engaging with the public either in schools/ colleges or public events working as part of a careers workshop.

Fisher was introduced to Rugby League whilst in the RAF and has gone on to Captain the RAF and UKAF teams that competed in the Annual Inter-Service Championships, and the Presidents Cup.

Speaking on the Club’s Armed Forces celebration game, Fisher said: “It’s another great way to engage with the public and it means a lot that the Club lead the way in showing their appreciation for what we do as a Military.

“Having events like this showcases the RAF, and it allows the younger generation to build ambitions to pursue a career in the Armed Forces, no matter what your background is or where you come from.”

On the similarities between her role in the RAF and on the Rugby League pitch, she added: “Team work, leadership, communication, determination, discipline and confidence are some of the few attributes that go hand in hand with both playing Rugby League and my day-to-day role.

“These are instilled early on within both Rugby League and the RAF which is why the sport is played by so many Military personnel and talented individuals.”

Fisher joined the Warriors under Denis Betts for the 2024 Betfred Women’s Super League season where she has gone on to make nine appearances across all competitions, scoring three tries.

Join the Warriors this Friday at The Brick Community Stadium as they take on London Broncos in Round 15. The game will be a celebration of our Armed Forces and all the information about what is happening in and around the stadium on Friday night can be found HERE.
