Sam Walters has shared his excitement as the Warriors return home to The Brick Community Stadium against London Broncos this Friday night.
Walters has made three appearances since signing from Leeds Rhinos after a broken collarbone – suffered in the Club’s final pre-season outing before the start of the Betfred Super League season – ruled the forward out for three months.
The forward played the full 80 minutes in Wigan’s 10-8 victory over Castleford Tigers in Round 14, and speaking on his return to action, Walters said: “The hardest thing when you’re not playing is coming back when the team is doing so well and trying to make that impact.
“I feel like I’m on my way to doing that now after getting a couple games back under my belt which is a real positive sign. Now I’m just trying to build on each performance as I’m finding my feet.”
Walters partnered Liam Farrell in the second row against Castleford, and on the Warriors captain, Walters said: “Faz has been great. He’s a player who has been at the top level for more than a decade and as you seen at Wembley he turns up in the big games.”
He added: “Off the field though he’s one of the first in the gym and his rehabilitation routine is something I’ve started to incorporate into mine. He’s the perfect role model for me to look up to.”
Walters experienced his first One Club Night on Monday evening as more than 200 players and coaches from Warriors teams took part in mixed skill stations in front of supporters.
On the environment, Walters said: “It’s a great place to be at the moment. If you look at the success of all our squads you can see we are all building something special here. It’s great to involve the community and be able to have that interaction with fans where we can share our thanks for all their support.”
Walters has been included in the Warriors’ 21-player squad to take on London Broncos at The Brick Community Stadium, and on the possibility of making his home debut, he said: “I’m excited by the prospect of running out at home and feeling their support on my back. Having that support behind us is like having another player on the pitch – it will be a great atmosphere.”
