Wigan Warriors Scholars fell to a 32-26 defeat to unbeaten hull kr at golborne parkside arlfc.
The Warriors faced a tough test against a Hull KR side who came into the clash with three wins from three. The visitors opened the scoring after six minutes when Charlie Forrester picked up and crashed over from close range as Henry Hope added the extras.
Hull KR extended their lead on 11 minutes when a series of passes along the line allowed Henry Moore to set up Hope who touched down in the corner. The score stood at 10-0 following an unsuccessful conversion attempt from the touchline.
Successive penalties from the restart allowed the Warriors to start an attack 20m from the Hull KR line before a quick show of hands created space for Jacob Davies to score on the wing. The extras couldn’t be added as the Warriors trailed 10-4 after 18 minutes.
The fast-paced encounter continued at Golborne Parkside as Hull KR added a third try four minutes later when a play on the final tackle resulted in Riley Dunn scoring in the corner. The winger was unable to convert is own try as the score remained 14-4.
The Warriors hit back on the half hour when a determined run from James Gleeson saw the forward crash over from close range as Bielecki reduced the points difference further from the tee.
Wigan’s strong end to the half was rewarded when an electric break through the Hull KR line saw Gleeson weave his way under the sticks to score his second. Bielecki added the two to give the Warriors a 16-14 lead at half time.
Hull KR regained the lead six minutes into the second half when Forrester snuck the ball down on the final tackle. Hope took over kicking duties as he added two more points to his side’s total.
The Warriors fought back to go in front before the hour after Hull KR failed to prevent Joe Hollins from powering over next to the posts. George Marsden added the two points from the tee to put Wigan 22-20 ahead.
An alert piece of play saw the Warriors build an attack 20m out after Hull KR lost possession in the tackle. After Harrison Oakes almost went over after accelerating clear around the visitors’ defence, play was worked to the right edge where Bailey Jones broke clear to score. Wigan were unable to add the extras as their lead remained 26-20 with 62 minutes on the clock.
Hull KR levelled the contest when Alfie Woods went over with seven minutes remaining before they claimed the win in the closing stages when Cameron Brigham pounced on a loose ball to ground. Hope successfully added both conversions as Hull KR saw out the remaining time to win 32-26.
