Zach Eckersley reflected on Wigan’s Betfred Challenge Cup Final win over Warrington.
Wigan scored three tries to one against the Wolves at Wembley Stadium on Saturday afternoon to lift the Betfred Challenge Cup trophy for a 21st time. Speaking at full time, Eckersley said: “It was a tough game and Warrington came to play. We started well like we always talk about doing, we dug in there right until the end, worked hard for each other and got the win in the end so it was really good.”
Eckersley scored the opening try after collecting a kick-through from Bevan French: “I didn’t think about scoring, I just wanted to do my job for the team and the main focus was just on winning the game but to get a try on top of winning was an added bonus. I enjoyed every moment of it, just loved every second.”
The Centre, who made only his fifth senior appearance for the Warriors in the game said: “We’ve been down here since Thursday so I’ve been pretty chilled and all the boys had been getting around me. Faz [Liam Farrell] told me this morning it’s not a bad thing to be nervous, he’s won everything and played in a lot of big games and he still gets nervous now.
“I was really nervous this morning when I woke up but I loved every second of it and couldn’t have done it with a better group of boys.”
Eckersley added: “I’ve got to keep taking each day as it comes, keep working hard. Obviously I’ve won a Challenge Cup now but I’ve not achieved much in the game yet in the grand scheme of things. I never thought I’d win any trophies never mind the one so I’m just embracing the moment with all my family and the boys.”
The Warriors return to Betfred Super League action this Friday night away to Castleford Tigers. Tickets and travel are available to purchase online HERE and you can find all the ticket information HERE.
