Matt Peet shared his pride as Wigan Warriors beat Warrington Wolves to lift the Betfred Challenge Trophy at Wembley Stadium.

Speaking post-match, Peet said: “I’m proud of the players for their commitment. It was never going to be the perfect game but we speak a lot as a group about not chasing perfection and instead trusting one another. When you watch them play there were times in the game when things went against them but as group they raised to it and almost seemed to enjoy it – that is a strength of theirs.”

On motivation, Peet said: “When I spoke on our motivation it was more achieving something special and being able to put that fourth trophy in the cabinet. I knew throughout the week that it would take a good team to beat this group and I wouldn’t change a moment of it because it’s what happened.”

Praising the group, Peet said: “This group are at their best when they’re playing for one another and when I see that it’s like how good is this. This group of players are more motivated by what they can achieve and what memories they can make together.”

Peet added: “I must say that a few of the lads who didn’t play today also played a massive part. Adam Keighran in how he looked after Zach Eckersley, Tyler Dupree on how he put things to the side, Harvie Hill who was unlucky to miss out, but most importantly Willie Isa who did our shirt presentation last night.

“You’d have seen all the players holding flags from their nations of heritage which came from Willie delivering a very special team meeting on what those flags represent for each player. What he did was unbelievable and the definition of a leader. It’s amazing when you get a group of men working together from all different backgrounds and I’m sure that brought the lads to digging as deep as they did.”
