Past Players meet ahead of the Challenge Cup Final
Wigan Warriors held a Past Players Afternoon at Standish Social Club last Sunday with The event sponsored by LCS Pipework Ltd.
Players who have worn the ‘Cherry and White’ over the last 70 years, along with some guests from Warrington Wolves Past Players and The Riversiders Supporters Club were in attendance.
Leadership and Management Director Shaun Wane welcomed everyone and both Dennis Ramsdale and Mark Forster shared their experiences of games between the two Clubs, Cup Finals and Mark also shared his memories of the Milwaukee Challenge in 1989.
Players in attendance included Billy Boston, Ray Ashby, Tony Stephens, Frankie Parr, Colin Tyrer, Andy Gregory, Nick du Toit, Dennis Ramsdale and Peter Rowe from Wigan with Mark Forster and Martin Crompton from Warrington.
Copies of the Cherry and White Memories DVD were distributed as there had been a lot of interest shown at the event in January. The DVD was compiled during the last 12 months at Central Park by Micron Video and many attending the afternoon were featured in the footage. Four of the 1965 Challenge Cup winning side, Billy Boston, Frankie Parr, Ray Ashby and Tony Stephens were present and all are looking forward to celebrating the sixtieth anniversary of the win over Hunslet next year.
More events are in the process of being planned in the second half of 2024 and beyond.
