Matt Peet shared his thoughts following Wigan Warriors 19-18 win over Warrington Wolves at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
Reflecting on the victory, Peet said: “I’m glad to get the two points in the end as there were times when it looked like we might not get the win. We were a bit off our best but that was credit to Warrington for making it so competitive. I had a feeling the game wouldn’t be straight forward as I knew Warrington would compete with their young players in.”
Peet directed praise towards the Club’s younger players which included Jacob Douglas who made his Betfred Super League debut in the win: “Jacob was good, Zach [Eckersley] was good, Junior [Nsemba] aged 19 was good and so was Brad [O’Neill] who is still only 20. Warrington had some outstanding players as well so overall it was a good game for British rugby league.”
On Eckersley, who made his second Betfred Super League start, Peet said: “We are all aware of what Zach is capable of as he’s been banging down the door in terms of the way he’s been training. I wasn’t surprised to see him have a good game and I was pleased with his try-saving tackle.”
Adam Keighran was sent off in the second half, and on the red card, Peet said: “Whenever you step onto the field you know there’s a chance you may not play the week after but that’s why squads are designed the way they are and why you practice the way you do. If it does result in a ban I’ll be very disappointed for Adam but as far as the team is concerned we will move on quick.”
Looking towards the week ahead, Peet said: “Regardless of what happened today it was always going to be about moving on quick. Whatever challenges this week throws up we will be excited by it.”
