Report
Wigan flew out of the blocks with back-to-back sets as a kick on the last was dropped by Anna Dennis to give Wigan the ball again.
Vice-Captain Rachel Thompson opened the scoring on 6 minutes as a goal line drop out gave Wigan good field position. The Warriors played central to allow Thompson to crash over close to the posts, with Emma Knowles converting the effort for 6-0.
Almost immediately Wigan were in again as Isabel Rowe put on a sensational solo run, drawing in the defence with a dummy to peel away and score on the right edge. Knowles added the extras again for 12-0.
Rowe then turned provider as she broke through the Warrington defence and with options either side, she got the ball away to Mary Coleman to complete the move, again under the uprights. Knowles made it three-from-three off the tee as Wigan hit 18-0.
It was one-way traffic for the Warriors who continued to ask the questions but the opportunities came to nothing with handling errors present for the Cherry & Whites but it was Denis Betts’ side who went in with an encouraging 18-0 lead at the turnaround.
Wigan continued their great attacking form into the restart as Ellise Derbyshire crossed almost immediately as a great kick from Emma Knowles bounced back into the hands of the winger who raced past a number of Warrington defenders to score, Knowles added a fourth consecutive goal to make it 24-0.
Anna Davies then added her name to the scoresheet in the 45th minute, finishing off a flowing Warriors attack down the left edge to power over in the corner. The conversion was missed this time.
After a period of possession shared by both teams, Warrington avoided a whitewash as they crossed through Sammi Simpson just before the hour. A fresh set of six in good territory saw the hosts cross in the right corner, though the conversion was missed by Magraw and it was 28-4 to Wigan going into the final 20.
Back into the side, Beth Hayes was next to cross from the interchange bench. Davies again was causing problems as she broke from deep in her own half. Derbyshire with the follow-up fed the ball to Beth Hayes to burst through a gap and score close to the posts. Knowles was back on target and it was 34-4.
The Warriors rounded off the game with a final score just before the hooter. Ellise Derbyshire made the initial break to get Wigan into the Wolves’ half before Davies finished off the move with the final score of the game. Knowles added the extras to see Wigan to a 40-4 victory and remain unbeaten in Betfred Women’s Super League.
