Sam Walters has reflected on a ‘special’ debut as Wigan Warriors beat Hull KR in the Betfred Challenge Cup semi-final to reach Wembley.
The Warriors crossed for seven tries in an emphatic display at Doncaster’s Eco-Power Stadium as Walters came off the interchange bench to make his Wigan Warriors debut.
On making his debut, Walters said: “Credit to Matty for putting his trust in me in such a massive game. I came on when Hull KR were chasing the game but the bench I could see how good a job our middles had done in such an intense game. For me now it’s about building on my minutes and getting that game fitness back.”
On reaching the Betfred Challenge Cup final, Walters said: “I remember as a kid rushing back from matches and training to watch the Challenge Cup final with my mum so to be a part of one is going to be special. You could see how much it meant to our fans and now it’s going to be even more special seeing them all down in London at Wembley.”
Walters added: “I can’t wait to be involved just like all the other lads in the dressing room – the mood inside the Club at the moment is amazing.”
Speaking on his return from injury, Walters said: “I’ve had to build relationships strongly off the field due to not being able to do so on the pitch but now I can start focusing on building those combinations on the field and gaining the respect from teammates. The lads have been doing really well since I’ve been watching from the side-lines and hopefully I can start adding to that.”
Season ticket holders and members can now purchase tickets for the Betfred Challenge Cup final from The Brick Community Stadium Ticket Office and online HERE. Tickets will then be available to buy on general sale from 10am on Thursday 23 May.
