Women’s Nines Returns for 2024

Women’s Nines Rugby League will return to Victoria Park, Warrington next month (Sunday 5 May) after another successful event in 2023.

Last season saw Leeds Rhinos lift the Women’s Nines trophy following a 21-8 defeat of Wigan Warriors in the Final at Salford Stadium.

This year’s competition will once again see all eight Betfred Women’s Super League sides taking part, alongside teams from the regional Championships including Leigh Leopards, Widnes Vikings and Telford Raiders.

Teams have been drawn into four groups of four with the top team from each – plus two wildcard’s – making it through to Finals Day on Saturday 27 July.

Reigning champions, Leeds Rhinos, will face Challenge Cup holders St Helens alongside two teams from the Midlands Women’s Championship – Telford Raiders and Leamington Royals.

York Valkyrie lifted the Super League trophy for the very first-time last year and will come up against Warrington Wolves, Leigh Leopards and developing side Widnes Vikings.

Last year’s runners up, Wigan Warriors, will hope that they can go one step further in 2024 and face Huddersfield Giants, London Broncos and Salford Red Devils.

And the two teams promoted into the Super League at the end of last season – Barrow Raiders and Featherstone Rivers – will come up against Cardiff Demons and Hull KR.

Play will run from 10.30am to 4pm with entry on the day free and much like last year’s event, the occasion will have a festival feel.

RFL Head of Development, Tom Brindle, said: “We’re really excited to bring the Women’s Nines back to Victoria Park – Nines is an exciting spectacle, and we’ll see lots of fantastic players showcasing their skills on the day.

“As we saw last year through teams like Wigan Warriors and Cardiff Demons, this format can be extremely competitive and is a great opportunity for younger players to introduce themselves, so I would urge fans to come down and experience it for themselves. There will be a real festival feel once again this year, so it should be a great day.
