Wigan Warriors Scholars’ unbeaten start to the season came to an end against huddersfield giants at ince rose bridge.
Despite trailing 10-0 at the break, Leyton Hull’s hat-trick levelled the contest before Huddersfield capitalised on a Warriors error in the closing stages to hand Wigan a first defeat of the season.

The Warriors started the stronger of the teams in tough conditions as Hull burst through the line to dive over after five minutes, however, the score was ruled out due to a forward pass.
Huddersfield stood firm on separate occasions to keep the Warriors out before the Giants then opened the scoring after 19 minutes when Harvey Barker powered through an attempted tackle to ground in the corner. Charlie Newton was unable to add the extras from the tee.
The visitors extended their advantage before the half hour when a short pass to Francis Appleyard saw the second rower side-step the tackle to crash over. Woody Potter added the two points to make the score 10-0.
The Warriors appeared to have delivered a response minutes after the restart when Zak Bielecki reacted positively to grounding a loose ball, however, the referee instructed a drop out over the try.
Wigan continued to apply pressure to the Huddersfield defence following a drop out from which possession was worked to the left edge where Hull went on the outside to score in the corner. Bielecki added the extras from the touchline to make the score 10-6 on 52 minutes.
Huddersfield allowed the Warriors to set up an attack inside their half after being penalised for offside. Wigan kept possession alive before Bielecki’s pass created space for Hull to dive over for his second as Wigan took the lead following a successful conversion.
Despite falling back behind when Stanley Hobson powered through under the sticks, the Warriors levelled the contest on 70 minutes when Hull touched down in the corner to complete his hat-trick. Wigan were unable to take the lead as the touchline kick went wide.
The Giants capitalised on a Warriors handling error in the closing stages as Newton’s solo run saw the hooker dive over next to the sticks. Despite an unsuccessful kick, Huddersfield held on in the final four minutes to win 20-16.
