Wigan Warriors Women Hooker Olivia Harborow spoke ahead of the Friday night clash against Barrow Raiders in the first Betfred Women’s Super League fixture of the season.

Harborow comes into the fixture after scoring her first try for Wigan against Cardiff Demons in the Challenge Cup group stages. The 23-year-old has been enjoying her second season in Rugby League after making the move from touch rugby. Harborow said: “Personally, I feel like I have developed quite a lot over the past year or so. I am still new to the game, coming from touch rugby, I am still learning quite a lot but thankful to be on the pitch with the girls.”

The Warriors will be playing their first game at the DW Stadium, speaking on the occasion, she added: “It is absolutely amazing, there is a buzz around the place. All the girls are so excited, the first thing after we found out we said it is going to be a memorable experience. Everyone is fighting for that shirt, everyone wants to be there. It is a step in the right direction for the Women’s game.”

This will be the second time this season Wigan will be facing Friday night’s opponents, Barrow Raiders, with the first meeting finishing with a 20-18 win for the Warriors in the Challenge Cup group stages. Reflecting on the fixture, Harborow said:  “We played them [Barrow] in the Challenge Cup a few weeks ago, it was a really good competitive game coming down to the last five minutes so they are going to want to put up a big game against us and with it being at the DW, we want to put on a good show for everyone.”

Reflecting on the season so far, Olivia has been pleased with how the team has been performing: “They have been really brilliant, we have been competitive, going back to our systems. Defensively, we have been at it. Denis is a great coach and motivates the team – the Club as a whole as well has been motivating the girls; it’s been good.”

Looking forward to the rest of the season, Harborow is excited for what is to come: “We just want to be competing with the top three teams. It is great to hear that Wigan are the team to be looking out for, so to be competing at that level is great. We have the Semi Final coming up as well which is a re-match, so we are ready.”
