In Memoriam: Tony Frost

Wigan Warriors are saddened to learn of the passing of former player Anthony “Tony” Frost aged 71 following a short illness.

Tony was born on 7th April 1953 locally and signed for Wigan from Wigan Colts having played through all the junior teams. Tony attended John Fisher High School which was a production line for Wigan at the time.

Tony made his first team debut on the 3rd November 1972 playing in the second row against Blackpool Borough at Central Park, Wigan earning him his unique Heritage Number 695. Tony scored against Blackpool as Wigan won the game by 23-13 and became the 115th Wigan player to score on debut, this would also be Tony’s first and only try for the club.

During his career at Wigan Tony played 5 games with his final game coming one year and four days after his debut. Tony’s final game for Wigan was an 18-12 loss against Wakefield Trinity again at Central Park.

Although Tony played five games for Wigan’s first team he accomplished his ambition of wearing the Cherry and White shirt a feat also shared by his younger brother Steve several years later.

Wigan Warriors send their condolences to Tony’s wife Margaret, children Christopher, Mark, and Anne-Marie along with his family, and friends.
