Jones: Ready to improve

  • Wigan Warriors Women’s Molly Jones is relishing the opportunity to rejoin the England Women Knights National Performance Squad.
  • Jones: “You obviously don’t know if you are going to get in again, you have to expect the unexpected.”
  • The centre will join up with the Knights with three other teammates.

Wigan Warriors Women’s Molly Jones hopes that through her England Women Knights National Performance Squad call-up she can sharpen her skills.

Jones, who is deep into pre-season with the Warriors Women ahead of their 2024 Campaign, was recently reselected for the England Knights Performance Squad and will be meeting up with Stuart Barrow and the coaching staff for their first training session at the end of this month.

On her aims this year, she said:  “I want to improve as a player, learn some higher level transferable skills that the England squads are expecting and bring that back to Wigan.

“I want to help and progress other teammates and set the standards of being at that level.”

The 19-year-old is currently recovering from a wrist injury suffered at the end of the 2023 season, and was unsure if that would hinder her chances of being reselected – her first call up since June 2023.

She said: “You obviously don’t know if you are going to get in again, you have to expect the unexpected.

“It is good to know that I have impressed [the coaches] to get reselected.”

Alongside Molly, teammates Grace Banks, Mary Coleman and Eva Hunter will be joining up with the Knights squad. Jones, who has been with the Club since 2022 both in the Academy and First Team, is looking forward to working alongside her fellow Warriors.

“It’s good, it is nice to know that you are alongside people from the same Club as you and to know that Wigan are filling out some of the numbers,” she said.

“You obviously have some friends there and you play better when you are alongside people that you are used to.”

Wigan Warriors Women will be coached by Club great Denis Betts and will begin their Women’s Super League campaign in March 2024. Earlier this week, the Group stages of the Challenge Cup was drawn with all the details HERE.
