More than just a Christmas Tree

Ahead of our ‘Night Under the Lights’ event next Tuesday, Wigan Warriors are delighted to unveil a new giant Christmas Tree at Robin Park Arena for the duration of the festive season. 

The seven-metre-high tree has a continually changing range of Wigan Warriors-themed displays, but is also supporting a young, local fundraiser.

The tree is decorated in Club colours, including our new away shirt, and will also be used to display the progress of a fundraiser that one of our young fans is undertaking for MND in the run-up to Christmas Day.

Sofia, who is 12-years-old and a student at Cheetham’s School of Music in Manchester where she studies Jazz piano, plays both rugby league for Hindley ARLFC and rugby union for Bolton Amazons RUFC.

She has been inspired by the incredible accomplishments of Kevin Sinfield and another young rugby league-playing friend Scarlet Howarth form Haydock, who recently finished her own 7in7 challenge.

Sofia, who came up with the challenge herself, has already raised almost £1,000 in donations – all proceeds raised will go to the Kevin Sinfield 7in7 fund supporting MND. Sofia, who is apprehensive and excited about the challenge, is hoping to hit a target of £5,000.

Speaking on the challenge, Sofia said: “I thought it was a good idea at the time but now I just hope I don’t let anyone down. I’m a little worried it may get tough after a few days, but I’m determined to keep going. 

“I’m already so grateful for the support I’ve had from all my mates, and I hope some of them can join me on different days to help keep me going. I also have my fingers crossed the weather is not too bad.”
